Want to win $4 million? All you have to do is win Squid Game – easy. Luckily, we’re not talking about the gruesome thriller series that had its characters literally fighting for their lives. Squid Game: The Challenge is giving fans the ultimate immersive experience with its IRL games inspired by the Netflix show. Originally from Korea, the new competition series is going global, and for UK viewers, the filming location is just a few hours drive away.
Where is Squid Game: The Challenge filming location?
Squid Game: The Challenge was filmed in Bedford in the East of England. The exact location was Cardington Studios, a former Royal Air Force station, just a two-hour drive from London.
The movie studio is home to several Hollywood blockbuster movies, including Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Inception, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
US, UK, and global recruits resided in nearby hotels and received wake-up calls as early as 3:30am. Players were reportedly prohibited from communicating with each other before being split into groups and getting miked up.
The original Korean TV show was filmed in Daejeon, Incheon, and Seoul.
Players complained of ‘freezing’ temperatures
Filming took place during the UK’s harsh January weather, where temperatures allegedly reached down to -3C (26.6F). Competitors were apparently told each game would consist of two-hour filming sessions, but the first game, Red Light Green Light, overran by five hours for some.
Squid Game’s unexpected “warzone” conditions allegedly left people “in tears” and one person was reportedly carried away in a stretcher.
Netflix denied the rumors, claiming the safety issues were “untrue”.
“We’ve taken all the appropriate safety precautions, including aftercare for contestants – and an independent adjudicator is overseeing each game to ensure it’s fair to everyone,” they said.
GRV Media and Reality Titbit have reached out to Netflix for comment.
