Elvis & Nixon tells the story of that one, fateful meeting between the King of Rock and Roll and the President of the United States. The date was December 21, 1970, four days before Christmas.
Elvis Presley unexpectedly and unannounced shows up to the White House, with an urgent request to meet with Richard Nixon, our 37th U.S. President. You see, Elvis is tired of what he sees as the imminent collapse of our society.
He opposes the drug culture, the hippie movement, and the Black Panther Party and he would like Nixon to do something about it all. Nixon only sees Elvis’s appearance as a PR stunt and does not appreciate being used this way.
Over time, though, the two men discover they have much more in common than one would think.
Michael Shannon plays Elvis while Kevin Spacey takes on Richard Nixon. Evan Peters plays the key role of Dwight Chapin, one of the two Nixon senior aides who set up the meeting. Evan Peters’ movies and TV shows haven’t dealt with real people and this is no different.
